Abstract

1,194,761. Laying cables. PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. 24 Dec., 1968 [9 Jan., 1968], No. 1207/68. Heading H2C. In a method of laying cables, a length of cable is laid on a temporary track 3, parallel to its final position and is transferred to the latter through rollers 10, 11, 19, 20, which are adjustably mounted on a wheeled vehicle 1, and 13 which is fixed at the point of contraflexure. The guide rollers may be replaced or augmented by skid plates. The vehicle has fore and aft wheels 5, running on a track 4 which may be a pre-laid concrete cable trough, and guide rollers 6, which incorporate a slew-limiting device, running on the vertical inside walls of 4. Initially the cable is manually lifted and placed on the rollers 10, and the vehicle moved in the direction "A" until it is placed at some distance past 19, where it is secured to slinging arm 23, which moves radially around 24 and leads the cable to 20, releasing it thereafter, allowing it to deposit itself in its final position. After this the laying is completely mechanical, the vehicle being driven by some tractive power.
