Abstract

1,194,518. Dolls. MARVIN IRVING GLASS [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES], 29 Jan., 1969 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 4814/69. Heading A6S. [Also in Division G5] In a gramophone arrangement for a doll having a multi-faced head rotatable with respect to its body, the sound played back-crying, no sound, laughing-is varied in dependence on which face-drying, sleeping, laughing-is presented through a hood covering the doll's head. Rotation of the doll's head 'by button 26 also rotates a detent registered switch plate 38 to one of three positions in which motor 86 energised from battery 518 is either de-energised or drives turntable 90 in one or other direction. The turntable carries sound grooves on each of its surfaces and is movable axially on its shaft 92 into contact with either stylus 104 or 108 associated respectively with sound reproducers 106, 110 on tone arms 100, 102. The axial movement is produced by turntable drive shaft 112 which is disposed obliquely to the turntable edge and moves it in one or other direction in, dependence on the direction of motor drive The tone arms are commonly mounted on shaft 98 and when a stylus e.g. 104 reaches. the end of the spiral groove of the record a cam on the tone arm eg. 100 engages a notch 130 on an arm 126 pivotally mounted on the turntable and normally urged by a spring 136 against a stop 132. The engagement lifts the stylus from the record and arm 126 swings outwardly carrying the tone arm to a position in which the stylus is again deposited on the record at the start of the record groove. Arm 144 performs the same function on the other side of the turntable.
