Abstract
1,194,459. Purification of xylylene diisocyanate. TAKEDA YAKUHTN KOGO K.K. 30 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 51385/68. Addition to 1,186,896. Heading C2C. A method for the purification of crude xylylene diisocyanate obtained by the phos genation of xylylene diamine comprises contacting crude xylylene diisocyanate in a fractionating column with the superheated vapour of an organic solvent having a boiling point of from - 20‹ to 150‹ C. at a pressure of 200 mm. Hg, the solvent consisting of an aliphatic hydrocarbon having from 2 to 11 carbon atoms, an alicyclic hydrocarbon having from 5 to 8 carbon atoms, an aromatic hydrocarbon, a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, the pressure at the top of the column being from 5 to 200 mm. Hg, and the temperature at the bottom of the column being in the range of from 170‹ to 185‹ C.
