Abstract

1,193,793. Printing apparatus. MIEHLEGOSS-DEXTER Inc. 20 June, 1968 [30 June 1967], No. 29338/68. Heading B6C. Sheets being printed upon are transferred between one impression cylinder and another by being gripped at one edge between fingers 11, of which a series are spaced parallel to the axis of transfer cylinder 10, and pads 12 and are fed to the second impression cylinder, or to a further transfer cylinder, by rotation of the cylinder 10. The sheet being transferred has its wet, printed face towards the cylinder 10, and is supported by retractable sheet-engaging elements 19, mounted on arcuate members 18. Each element 19 is J-shaped, and is loaded by a spring 48 so that its shorter arm 47 is held against the surface of the associated member 18 when the two arms are in line in the circumferential direction of cylinder 10. Those elements 19 which must be retracted if they are not to contact wet parts of the sheet are turned through 90 degrees in bores 42, and their shorter arms 47 enter holes 52, so that they are retracted by the springs 48. The members 18 are adjustable along the length of cylinder 10, suitably by pinions operating on racks on the cylinder 10.
