A device 10 for making wire harnesses comprises a first board 11 perforated substantially throughout its surface area, a second board 13 spaced therefrom, a plurality of pins 16 positioned through selected perforations in the first board and detachably engaged with the second board, thereby to define the outline of a harness to be formed with a plurality of wires placed intermediate the pins, the pins being repositionable to define the outlines of another harness. A sheet 17, having the outline of the harness marked thereon is laid on the board 11 and the pins 16 are passed through it, to be secured in the board 13 by a driving tool 50. The pins have tapered ends (52) which fit into the board 13 and which may be threaded, Fig. 6 (not shown). A bundle of wires 18 is positioned between the pins 16 and the ends of the wires are held by springs (43) secured to the board 11, Fig. 8 (not shown). The spacing between the boards 11, 13 may be varied by means 14 acting in co-operation with an adjustable stop 22. The means 14 comprises handles 23 on opposite sides of the boards operating links 24 movable vertically in slots 25a and horizontally in slots 25b to lock the board 13 in its raised position, Fig. 3. Initially the wires are routed with the board 13, lowered and as the wires approach pin height, the handles 23 are raised to locked position. On completion of routing the wires, the board 13 is lowered and tying straps are inserted around the wires to hold them in their final harness outline. The device 10 is provided with pivoted legs so that it may be angularly tilted, if required.
