Abstract

1,191,182. Valves. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 2 May, 1968 [8 Aug., 1967], No. 36342/67. Heading F2V. A valve, which is adapted particularly for use in a centralized liquid fuel distribution system, comprises inlet and outlet chambers 10 and 11 respectively, which chambers are separated by a centrally apertured wall 9, a float 2 having a stem 12 depending therefrom, the stem carrying a valve member 3 designed to co-operate with the wall aperture and a magnetized plate 4 arranged to co-operate with a magnet 13, a bellows 5 into which the stem extends and which communicates with the outlet chamber via port 15, and a flow supply control 1. In operation, upon the level in the inlet chamber 10 falling, as due the outflow exceeding the inflow or the formation of an abnormal pressure, the float falls, valve member 3 engages the wall aperture, and plate 4 engages the magnet 13, the arrangement being such that the attraction between members 4 and 13 is greater than the float buoyancy and so re-opening of the valve can only be achieved upon the application of an upwardly directed force to the underside of the bellows 5. In a modification, the magnet may be replaced by a suction device adapted to retain the stem in its lowermost, or valve closed, position.
