Abstract
1,191,006. Production of 3-ketobutanol-(1)- BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 14 Sept., 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 41973/67. Heading C2C. 3-Ketobutanol-(1) is prepared by reacting acetone with aqueous formaldehyde solution at superatmospheric pressure and at a temperature of from 140-210‹ C. The mole ratio of acetone to formaldehyde is suitably 4 to 10 moles of acetone per mole of formaldehyde. The formaldehyde solution preferably is a concentrated solution of 30-40% strength by weight. The reaction pressure may vary from the vapour pressure of the reactants at that temperature to 500 atmospheres. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, preferably 0À1 to 5% by weight of a salt of an alkali metal with a carboxylic acid and after a period of 30 sees. to 5 minutes of the reaction completion the solution is cooled to below 100‹ C.
