Abstract

1,190,421. Radiographic screens. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 May, 1967, No. 22891/67. Addition to 1,185,832. Heading H5R. [Also in Divisions C4 and H1] An electroluminescent device as in the parent Specification has incorporated in the electroluminescent material, or in the path of light passing from this material to the outside of the device a dystuff or other colouring material serving to increase the contrast between light and dark areas of the image. The colouring material may be a separate layer between the conductive film and electroluminescent layer, or a transparent coloured layer over the outside of the glass or plastics member. With a green electroluminescent phosphor, the colouring material may be methyl violet dissolved in a 10% cyanoethyl cellulose solution in a 1: 1 mixture of acetone and formdimethylamide and applied by spraying, dipping or spinning technique to the front glass surface to form a 0À005 inch thick layer. With blue and yellow phosphors, Lacquer Orange G and Oil Soluble Black respectively may be used or other dyes with a maximum spectral absorption close to the main emission of the phosphors. Alternatively the glass may be tinted e.g. neutral grey, a neutral grey filter may be incorporated in the panel or provided as an accessory such as a sleeve for viewing purposes.
