Abstract
1,190,481. Vehicle with detachable load carrying frame. O. NORDBY. 31 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 5084/68. Heading B8E. A convertible transport vehicle comprises a frame 3 which is detachably securable to the chassis frame 1 of the vehicle. The goods to be transported are disposed on or in a loading facility, such as a loading area or in a tank rigidly secured to the frame 3 which has adjustable, telescopic legs 4F, 4R. As shown the frame 3 has telescopic legs 4P, 4R and is locked in position for transport by a pair of locking hooks 5 pivoted about an axis 7. An hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder means 6 is connected between the chassis frame 1 and the hooks 5. Wires 8 attached to the hooks 5 are connected to rear wheel axle 2 by loops. The frame 3 may be detached from the vehicle by extending the cylinder means 6, which unlocks the hooks 5 and, through the wires 8, compresses axle springs 9 and lowers the chassis frame 1 relative to the rear wheels so that the frame 3 comes to rest on its rear legs 4R. Fig. 2 shows in dotted line the original position of the chassis frame 1 and in full line the depressed position. The vehicle can now be driven out of the frame 3, rollers 10 riding in guide rails 11 which have gradients 12 to cushion the separation of the frame 3 from the chassis as it comes to rest on its front legs 4F. The vehicle may now be used with another frame while the former frame 3 is unloaded. The frame 3 may be connected to the vehicle by reversing the above procedure.
