Abstract

1,189,704. Printing processes. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 26 June, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 29307/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] A thermographic process comprises contacting an original containing a volatile material with a first receptor sheet which is infra-red absorptive, heating the assembly to transfer the volatile material image-wise to the receptor sheet, contacting the receptor sheet with a second receptor sheet and exposing to infra-red radiation to re-transfer the material and then if necessary, developing the latent image, to produce a right-reading visible image of the original. The volatile material may be an alkanolamine, or a hydrogenated terphenyl which is developed by applying a powder developer to the final receptor sheet. However, if the final receptor sheet is a two-component diazotype sheet and the volatile material is an alkanolamine a visible image is produced directly. The first receptor sheet preferably contains carbon black as the infra-red absorbent pigment and has a machine glazed surface which receives the volatile material.
