Abstract

1,189,273. Two-part couplings. H. P: VAN GRONINGEN. 20 June, 1968 [28 June, 1967; 18 Dec., 1967; 28 May, 1968];. No. 29485/68. Heading H2E. [Also in Division F4] An elongated flexible lighting fitting which can be coiled when not. in use comprises, a transparent tube 1 containing, a series of lamps 30 and having at least two longitudinal grooves in which electric leads 24-26 are housed. The tube is formed from an extruded P.V.C. strip of inverted U-section by folding it longitudinally about the lamps until the flanges 20, 21 abut one another and then securing the flanges together by adhesive, heat-sealing, riveting &c. Each lamp, which is of the doubleended incandescent type, is mounted in a lamp holder comprising a transparent P.V.C. tube 31 having a spring ring (34, 35) at each end to locate the lamp and a pair of electrodes 44 which abut the lamp caps 36, (37) and extend out through passages in the wall of the tube 31 to engage appropriate leads. The tube 1 may be filled with oil for cooling purposes and may be suspended by means of holes formed at intervals along the flanges 20, 21. The lamps may be connected alternately in two or more circuits so that a variety of different lighting effects may be obtained.
