Abstract

1,188,009. Movable magnet switches. JERVIS B. WEBB CO. 22 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 38521/67. Heading H1N. A proximity switch which operates on the approach of a ferromagnetic object 30 to a sensing face 20 of a non-magnetic case 10 has two sensing permanent magnets 26, 28 with opposite poles adjacent the sensing face 20 and two biasing permanent magnets 32, 34 adjacent a magnetic shield 40. Both sets of magnets influence magnetic contacts 24, 25 of a sealed magnetic reed contact unit 22. The shield limits the effect of ferromagnetic material in the member on which the switch may be mounted by bolts passing through bosses 13, 14 (Fig. 2, not shown). The casing compartment 19 may be filled with plastics material or some of the parts may be cemented in place, particularly if the biasing magnets are made adjustable by the provision of a compression spring between them urging them against respective setting screws extending from the casing (Fig. 3, not shown). The sensing magnets 26, 28 may be made of barium ferrite.
