Abstract

1,188,079. Oxygen cutting lances. R. CLUCAS. 10 Dec., 1968 [30 Oct., 1968], No. 51404/68. Heading B3R. [Also in Division F4] A flexible oxygen cutting lance comprises a plurality of multi-strand steel wire cores 1, which form a hollow core, e.g. a crane cable with the central core removed, and are disposed in an outer plastics sheath 2, e.g. of nylon, and, in use, oxygen is supplied through the hollow 3 of the core and an electric current of about 160 amps is supplied to the cores 1. The lance is suitable for metal cutting, may be used under water, and may be very long. An end fitting comprises a copper tube 4 forced into the hollow 3 and fast with a metal sleeve 5 clamped to the cores 1. An electric terminal 6 and an oxygen supply member 7 are provided on sleeve 5 and tube 4 respectively.
