Abstract

1,187,263. Spray-producers. R. H. ABPLANALP. 14 July, 1967 [11 Aug., 1966], No. 32422/67. Heading B2F. A dispenser for fluent materials such as powders or viscous liquids comprises a container 10 for a pressurized gaseous or volatile liquid propellant, arranged within a container 20 for the spray material, means being provided to allow gaseous propellant to flow into the material container 20 on operation of a valve actuator head 32. Depression of the head 32 allows propellant to flow through a valve housing 36 by separating a body 37 from a gasket 35 and affording communication through an opening 38 with passages 41, 43 leading to the outlet orifice 40 in the head 32, the propellant thereby flowing across the upper end of a spray material flow passage 39 to entrain the material. A small orifice 44 in the wall of the passage 41 admits propellant into a chamber 45 defined by the top of the propellant container 10 and the walls 46, 47 of the actuator assembly. The walls 46 are made of thin flexible nylon or polyethylene to allow the head to be depressed. The propellant flows from the chamber 45 into the material container 20, through grooves 23 formed in the mouth 21 of the container 20, in order to fluidize a powdered material therein, or to exert pressure on a liquid material and to assist discharge thereof. In an alternative embodiment, for powdered materials, the grooves 23 are replaced by a tube (not shown), having a plurality of outlets below the surface of the material, which leads into the product container 20. The grooves 23 may alternatively be replaced by splines (not shown).
