Abstract

1,186,860. Sealing manhole covers and frames. DOVER ENG. WORKS Ltd. 30 Dec., 1968 [4 Jan., 1968], No. 701/68. Heading E1G. A manhole cover 7 and its frame 1 are provided with mating side-wall recesses forming a peripheral channel 8, into which grease or other sealing material is introduced through one or more passages 9 in the cover. The dished cover shown is filled with concrete 10. The frame shown has a peripheral rib 5, stiffening webs 6, and is anchored in a recess of a concrete bed 2 by infilled concrete 3 retained by a depending rubber or like strip 4 on the frame, the strip 4 being deformed from the dotted to the full-line position as the frame is lowered into the recess.
