Abstract

1,186,708. Indicating-apparatus; weighing machines. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Dec. 3, 1968 [Dec. 8, 1967], No. 55828/67. Headings G1J and G1W. A measuring instrument with a graduated scale 12 has a display member 16 providing magnitude values X at intervals along the scale, the member 16 being movable to change the values X to accord with a change of range, and a display member 20 movable relative to both the scale 12 and member 16 to qualify the values X in accord with a change in choice of units of measurement. The member 20 masks the values X except where a window 21 or 22 therein exposes them through further windows 13, 13a in the dial 11 which also expose the chosen units Y together with the appropriate number of noughts so that for example 60 tonf; 60, 000 Kgf and 600, 000N may be made to appear as alternative indications of the same force, by moving the member 20 relative to the member 16 after setting the member 16 as shown in Fig. 1. As shown five different scale ranges between 0-3 tonf and 0-60 tonf can be set, preferably automatically, by mechanism provided for selecting the capacity range of the instrument. The window 13A in the dial 11 also exposes the value of the scale increment corresponding to the range and units chosen.
