Abstract

1,185,694. Gas chromatography. VARIAN MAT G.m.b.H. 12 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 16827/67. Heading B1L. [Also in Division HI] The components of a gas sample separated in a gas chromatograph column 1 together with a carrier gas, e.g. hydrogen or helium, are passed via a capillary 7 to the ionization source 9 (see Division H1) of a quadrupole mass filter 15, the ion current corresponding to the partial pressure of a sample fraction being measured either by means of an electrode in the ionization source or at the output of the mass filter. The time function corresponding to the partial pressure and the mass spectrum are also measured. The carrier gas is introduced into the column 1 through a line 2 and the gas sample through a branch 4 by means of an injection pump 3, the needle of the pump penetrating a membrane 5.
