Abstract

1,185,674. Edge connectors. ELCO CORP. 14 March, 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 11872/67. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] An edge connector contact 20, Fig. 4, comprises a convex, bifurcated panel-engaging part 24, and a pair of spaced parallel legs 26. 28 joined by a U-bend 39, the convex part 24 being pivotable about an enlarged lower part 36 of leg 26, and the leg 28 having an enlarged terminal part 48-50. In an edge connector assembly 10, Fig. 1, resilient insulating blocks 16, housing contacts 20, and end blocks 14, housing similar contacts (18, Fig. 3, not shown) are mounted in the desired array in a base-plate 12, projections 92 on the blocks snap-fitting in apertures 56 in the base-plate. Two pairs of opposed contacts 20, or alternatively two adjacent contacts 20, are retained in each block 16 by frictional engagement of the contact posts 48-50 with passages 98 in the blocks. The contacts (18) of the end blocks 14 differ from the contacts 20 in that the legs 28 of a row of contacts are linked by an integral bus-bar 22. The bus-bars 22 extend through slots 72 in the side walls of the blocks 14, across the width of the base 12, so that the contacts (18) which they carry link printed contacts on the ends of panels 66.
