Abstract
1,185,012. Treatment of gelatine. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 10 March, 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 10909/66. Heading C3H. [Also in Division G2] In a process for the preparation of an inert gelatine, a natural gelatine containing restrainers (i.e. substances which slow down the rate of sensitivity increase of a photographic emulsion during "digestion") is treated so as to degrade a substantial proportion of the restrainers, and the degraded restrainers are then removed. The degrading agent may be deoxyribonuclease since restrainers are of the nature of nucleic acids; magnesium ion catalyses the degradation. The gelatine may then be filtered through charcoal which absorbs the degradation products.
