Abstract

1,185,041. Adjustable blade propeller. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. 11 April, 1967 [12 April, 1966], No. 16007/66. Heading B7V. [Also in Division F1] A rotor having adjustable blading, adjustment of which blades such as 1 is effected by the operation of fluid pressure motor 4, 5 includes first valve means 20 adjustable for control of the motor and having a valve element 21 movement of which controls both directions of adjustment of the blades, and further valve means 24 operative, upon the occurrence of a predetermined but inadvertent amount of drift of the motor in a chosen direction and thus of the blading, to lock the motor hydraulically to prevent further drift. In the embodiment described the predetermined amount of drift in the ease of a variable pitch aircraft propeller is governed by the position of poppet head 35 set by manual control linkage 22. The blading may also be of variable camber or variable twist type and the term " rotor " includes propellers, wind motors and fans.
