Abstract
1,184,864. Cellular ceramics. OTSUKA KAGAKU YAKUHIN K.K. 18 Sept., 1968, No. 44394/68. Headings C1H, C1J and C1M. A foamable ceramic composition comprises in weight parts 100 of ceramic powder, 40 to 150 of water glass and 1 to 10 of a N-based organic decomposing at 100-250‹ C. Optionals are silicofluorides, fluozirconates, fluothallates, fluostannates, colloidal silica or alumina. The exemplified ceramics include nitrides, e.g. BezN2, BN; carbides, e.g. ThC2, TiC, ZrC, MoC; oxides, e.g. Cr2O3, FeO; kaolin, barite, quartz, dolomite, talc and wollastonite, whilst the organics include azo compounds, hydrazides, semicarbazides and a polyamine. Other optionals are fibres, e.g. asbestos, glass, rock wool, polyamide and polyester; metal powders; bentonite, alginates, pigments and stabilizers, e.g. P.V.A. starch, NaSt and phloxine. The composition is heated at the decomposition temperature to 300‹ C. to give the cellular product which can then be fired, e.g. at 800- 1600‹ C. When chromia pigment is used in the composition a green semi-porcelain results. A yellow glaze is applied to a tile by including Cadmium Yellow in the frit, an example of which is given.
