Abstract

1,184,065. Spray-producers. STERWIN A.G. 26 May, 1967 [3 June, 1966; 20 July, 1966; 23 Aug., 1966], Nos. 24939/66; 32502/66 and 37749/66. Heading B2F. [Also in Division 38] A spray producer suitable for discharging a metered volume of a liquid such as a medicament comprises a bottle 1 containing the liquid medicament 3 and having deformable walls 2, and a plug 5 located in the neck of the bottle and provided with a nozzle 6, and mass of absorbent material 7 arranged within the plug and adapted to control the quantity of liquid discharged through the nozzle 6 when pressure is applied to the walls 2. The bottle is squeezed once to exhaust all the liquid from the material 7 and to force air out of the bottle. The absorbent material may be cotton wool, pumice, sintered glass or metal, polyurethane or polystyrene foam, or foamed rubber or latex. A cap 8 fits on the device when not in use. The bottle may be of polythene, polypropylene or polystyrene. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the absorbent material is retained in the plug by a perforated plate (9) Fig. 3 (not shown) depicts an embodiment incorporating a riser tube (10) and operable in either an upright or an inverted position. In the embodiments of Fig. 5 and 7 (not shown) the absorbent material is located at the bottom of a riser tube (11) and air reaches the nozzle 6 via passages at the side of the tube.
