Abstract
1,183,672. Vinyl acetate. W. R. GRACE & CO. 16 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967; 6 Oct., 1967], No. 2391/68. Heading C2C. Vinyl acetate is made by heating a gaseous mixture of oxygen, ethylene and acetic acid at 90-200‹ C., contacting it with a catalyst comprising a base-treated TiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 support having a Group VIII noble metal deposited thereon and removing vinyl acetate from the gaseous mixture. The residual gases may be recycled to the catalyst zone with fresh reactants. Examples give practical details of reaction temperature, pressure, space velocity, yield &c. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,128,993.
