Abstract
1,182,383. Polyamides. SUN OIL CO. 15 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967; 30 Oct., 1967], No. 2116/68. Heading C3R. Linear polyamides are prepared by polycondensation of a dibasic adamantane and an organic diamine R(NH 2 ) 2 . R is a bivalent organic radical; R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon radical; R<SP>11</SP> is a C 1-20 hydrocarbon radical; and X is OH, Cl or Br. Suitable diamines are: hexamethylene diamine, m-phenylene diamine, 1,4-bis-(aminomethyl)- cyclohexane and 1,3 - diamino - 5,7 - dimethyl adamantane. In preferred acid components X is chlorine, e.g. 1,3-dimethyladamantane-5,7- diacyl chloride. The polymers may have an inherent viscosity (measured as a 0.5% soln. in m-cresol) in the range 0-05 to 2-0.
