Abstract
1,182,105. Egg boxes, &c. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 1 May, 1967 [16 Aug., 1966], No. 20056/67. Heading B8P. A moulded container 10 of pulp or plastics for fragile articles, e.g. eggs, is suitable for stacking and comprises a sub-divided tray 12 and a lid 14 having a rectangular channel 36, 58, 38, 58, Fig. 1, wherein the inner sides 44, 44<SP>1</SP>, 60 have windows 52, 62 formed by transparent panels or holes. The inner walls 44, 44<SP>1</SP>, 60 transmit vertical stress through each portion 54, 60 to flat tray-engaging transverse faces 50 which lie between the windows 52, 62. A circumferential flange also engages with a coverbearing flange 32, Fig. 2, on the tray. The faces 50 engage with the tops 34, Fig. 4, of posts 16 which, together with longitudinal 20 and transverse 18 indentations form compartments 24 for the fragile articles F. Other embodiments have the posts 16 higher, Fig. 17-20 (not shown) or lower, Fig. 20a (not shown), than the rim of the tray, and the faces 50 at a corresponding lower or higher level. The outer walls 42, 42<SP>1</SP> and inner walls 44, 441 of the cover may either be flat or undulating, Fig. I, and Figs. 9, 9a (not shown). The flat walls and the the tops 40, 40<SP>1</SP> can be used to carry indicia. The container 10 may be divided into two or more integral sub-containers by a flange or a tube (415) and separable by perforations, Figs. 25-32 (not shown). The tray compartments 24 may have smooth curves or be formed from flat and curved surfaces, Fig. 26a (not shown). The tray 12 may have the lid 14 hinged on one side 26, as shown, and a locking flap 30 on the other 28 to engage with the lid.
