Abstract
1,181,632. Boots &c. DR. ING. HERBERT FUNCK K.G. 25 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3936/68. Heading A3B. A sole laying press includes a pressure chamber having a flexible membrane which can be stretched by a multiple of its dimensions in the unloaded condition so that when pressure fluid is supplied to the chamber the membrane presses against the sole and at least part of the upper. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) a press for bonding a sole 16 to a lasted upper 14, 15 having a Louis heel includes a dish shaped base 3 having a last pin 13 and guide rods 1. A hood or bell shaped member 2 is movable on the guide rods 1 by a rod 12 connected to the piston rod of a piston and cylinder device (not shown) and the open end of the hood 2 is closed by a flexible membrane 6. Pressure fluid is supplied to the chamber 8 through inlet 7 and air can escape from the base 3 through holes 17. The membrane 6 presses the sole 16 against the lasted upper and against the breast face of the heel and also presses the upper against the last as shown. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) for bonding a sole 21 with upstanding margins to a shoe bottom the lasted upper 14<1>, 15<1> is mounted in an apercure 20 in a plate 18 secured to the base 3<1>. A sealing bead 19 projects the shoe upper 15<1> and ensures that the membrane 6 does not pass between the plate 18 and upper 15<1>. The membrane presses the sole 21 against the shoe bottom and presses the upstanding margins of the sole against the side of the upper 15<1>. In a modification (not shown) the membrane 6 is replaced by an inflatable bladder mounted in the hood.
