Abstract
1,181,347. Coated articles. DOW CORNING CORP. 10 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967; 19 Oct., 1967], No. 27419/68. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Division C3] Fibrous substrates, e.g. paper or textiles of cotton, nylon, wool, rayon, polyesters, vinylic polymers, polyacrylonitrile or vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymers, or wood, metal, or ceramic substrates may be coated with a composition comprising (1) a hydroxy-terminated dimethylpolysiloxane of viscosity at least 2,000 cSt/25‹C., (2) a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane having at least 3 SiH groups per molecule, in amount 1-10 wt% of (1), (3) a silicate Si[(OC 2 H 4 ) 2 OH] 4 or Si[OC 2 H 4 OR'] 4 , wherein R is a C 1-4 and R' a C 3-6 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, in amount providing 0.05-2 wt% of Si based on (1), (4) an organic isocyanate having at least 2 isocyanate groups, soluble in an organic solvent, in amount 0.5-5 wt% of (1), and (5) a curing catalyst for the composition. The composition may be applied by knife coating, dipping or spraying, as such, if liquid or in 1-10 wt% solution in e.g. a hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon or ether. In Examples glassine or Kraft papers are given release coatings by applying such compositions in xylene with or without methyl ethyl ketone. The components used are: (1) of 5000-10<SP>7</SP> cSt; (2) trimethylsiloxy-terminated methyl hydrogen polysiloxane; (3) [CH 3 OC 2 H 4 OC 2 H 4 O] 4 Si, [C 4 H 9 OC 2 H 4 O] 4 Si, [C 2 H 5 OC 2 H 4 OC 2 H 4 O] 4 Si, [C 4 H 9 OC 2 H 4 OC 2 H 4 O] 4 Si; and [C 6 H 11 OC 2 H 4 O] 4 Si; (4) a polyisocyanate of formula: a partially hydrolysed toluene diisocyanate, and 4:4'diphenylmethylene diisocyanate; and (5) dibutyltin di-2-ethylhexoate or dilaurate, and lead octoate or neodecanoate.
