Abstract

1,181,121. Knitting. BUNKER-RAMO CORP. 2 Feb., 1967 [7 Feb., 1966], No. 5166/67. Headings D1C and D1K. In a circular multifeed machine for knitting high pile fabrics, films are fed from two sources to each feed. Fibres differing in density and/or length and/or colour are fed by carding means to parts 22a, b of a doffer. Needles having long or short butts 34, 32 are arranged in a desired pattern around the cylinder. Long and short butt needles are selectively raised to upper tracks as they pass parts 22a, b respectively and thereby take different fibres. In a modification medium butt needles 36 move in upper tracks at both parts 22a and b, taking both types of fibre. Since the needles are arranged in groups to take different fibres, there will be a periodic buildup of fibres on the doffers. Consequently in the fabric produced the leading edges of the stripes will have a higher pile density than the trailing edges. In the arrangement with three butt lengths the fabric comprises stripes of each of two different fibres and a strip consisting of a mixture of both types. Similar fibre feeding arrangements may be made at each feed so that each wale always includes the same fibre(s); or the pattern in the wale may be varied by feeding a different fibre to one feeding station.
