Abstract

118,101. Motala Verkstads Nya, Aktiebolag. Dec. 31. 1914, [Convention date]. Fuel, feeding.-In an air-current feeding- apparatus for pulverulent fuel, air blasts are delivered into the fuel container at various levels to stir and agitate the powder. In one form of the invention, Fig. 1, in connexion with a locomotive, the fuel is contained in a downwardly-tapering receptacle 2 on the tender, and is forced through a belt-mouthed conduit 1 leading to the furnace by an air blast delivered through a nozzle 68. The blasts for stirring the powder are supplied through ring pipes 90, 91. 92 surrounding the nozzle 68, and through conduits 75, 78 on the walls of the receptacle. The openings in the conduits deliver downwardly along the walls of the receptacle, and may be covered by plates to prevent choking. The whole of the air supply is controlled by a single valve 67, the ports in which are so arranged that the blasts through the conduits 75 and 78, the nozzle 68, and the rings 90, 91 and 92 are brought into operation in succession. In a modification, the nozzle and the rings are supplied from an air box beneath. The innermost ring branches from the nozzle 68, and the other two communicate directly with the box, the supplies to them being controlled by differently loaded valves, so that the three rings come into operation in succession. A more energetic stirring of the fuel can be effected by closing a valve 83 in the feed pipe 1, opening a spring-loaded valve 80 in the top of the fuel container, and turning on the blast. The valve 80 and a damper 84 in the feed pipe may be interconnected so that when one is open the other is closed An opening 79 in the feed pipe 1 normally allows air under pressure to escape from the space above the fuel in the receptacle 2. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following subject-matter : In a modification, the nozzle 68 has a conical perforated top, and can be moved to or from the inlet to the feed pipe 1. The side walls of the fuel receptacle are vertical, and the front and rear walls are inclined to form a hoppershaped container. In this case, the whole of the contents for the supply of the stirring-blast are in the walls of the receptacle. In another modification, Fig. 10 (cancelled), acting under suction draught, the hopper-shaped receptacles are formed by inclining the side walls, and by an internal ridge 40. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
