Abstract
1,181,064. Stop motion. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 2 May, 1967 [4 Feb., 1966], No. 5049/66. Addition to 1,079,833. Heading D1D. In a textile machine e.g. a wet doubling or twisting machine, wherein the yarn 17 passes between a driven roller 11 and a pressure roller 12 and holds roller 12 in its operative position against biassing means e.g. a spring 15, a pneumatic control arrangement is provided so that when yarn 17 breaks and roller 12 moves to its inoperative position, it actuates a spindle stopping device to halt the spindle. A yarn holding device may be simultaneously actuated. As shown when roller 12 and its arm 13 rise a member 16 on arm 13 lifts a lever 28 to allow a piston 22 to be lifted by air pressure in a line 32 and air lines 34a, 34b to be pressurised. Spindle stopping device. Line 34b leads to a piston-cylinder arrangement which when pressurised moves, through a linkage, an arm 73. This rotates a plate 61 surrounding the lower end of the corresponding spindle and shifts an idler pulley 64 on plate 61 so as to lift the spindle driving belt 65 clear of the spindle wharve 63. Simultaneously a brake member 68 mounted on a lever 66 pivoted on plate 61 and biassed towards the wharve by a spring 67 but normally held clear by a cam follower 69 engaging a flange on the spindle, is brought into engagement with the wharve by the follower 69 being brought to a portion of the flange having a flat 71. Thus the spindle is stopped. Yarn holding device. Air line 34a leads to a piston-cylinder arrangement which, when pressurised, grips the end of the broken yarn. The arrangement comprises, see Figs. 3, 4 not shown, normally aligned slots (42) and (49) in extensions of the cylinder and piston respectively through which the yarn passes. A pin (50) mounted in the cylinder extension passes through the slot in the piston extension. When the piston moves under pressure in line 34a the yarn is gripped between the pin and the slot in the piston extension.
