A golf tee apparatus comprises a tee 4 mounted for vertical movement between upper and lower positions, a pneumatically operated piston I and cylinder device 33 for imparting movement to the tee, a control valve 23 for alternately connecting opposite ends of the cylinder to pressure source and exhaust, means for feeding balls individually to the tee when lowered and means for controlling the rate at which the tee moves upwardly, e.g. an air flow regulator on the exhaust side of the cylinder The means for feeding the balls includes a chute 11, a gate wall 10 and a cradle 9 movable with the tee and ball transfer gates 12, the gate wall closing the chute when the tee is raised and allowing a ball to pass from the chute into the cradle when the tee is lowered. The ball transfer gates allow passage of a ball when the tee is raised and allow a ball to be transferred into the tee from the gates when the tee is lowered. In preferred embodiments the apparatus is actuated by (i) the movement of the tee on impact with a golf club or (ii) the loss of weight of the ball on the tee and Fig. 3 (not shown) relates to a manually operated tee apparatus.
