Abstract
1,180,360. Radio-active sources. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 1 Nov., 1968 [9 Nov., 1967], No. 51845/68. Heading G6R. A radio-active heat source for supplying energy to a cardiac pace-maker comprises an α-ray emitting alloy consisting of Pu 238 and one or more of the metals In, Sc, Ga, Ce, and Am in a leak-tight container. The composition of the alloy is such that it remains in the delta phase and retains a face centred cubic crystal structure up to at least 450 C. The alloy should be free from Pu 236 and from low atomic weight elements so that gamma radiation and neutron flux are less than the permissible limit.
