Abstract

1,180,171. Adjustable gauge railway fastenings. LOCKSPIKE Ltd. 11 July, 1968, No. 33233/68. Heading E1G. A rail and sleeper assembly adjustable for two rail gauges comprises an inverted steel channel sleeper 1 receiving rail-fastening clips 16-17-18, one rail 14 being non-adjustably located between projections 3, 4 while the other rail 15 is laterally movable between projections 5, 6 and is located against one or the other by inserting a retaining member 10 in either of two holes 8, 9 according to the desired rail gauge. The member 10 comprises an arch 11, legs 13 straddling the adjacent projection 6 or 5, and a cranked locking portion 12. Each projection 3 . . . 6 is formed by bending up an incised central portion of the channel 1 and is flanked by a pair of downwardly-bent projections 7. The projections 3 . . . 7 and the arch 11 provides apertures for the legs 16 of fastening clips of the types disclosed in Specifications 861473 and 1059190. Electrically-insulating material may be provided.
