Abstract

1,179,895. Steering wheel covers. L. F. FULHAM. 26 April, 1968 [17 Feb., 1967; 21 Nov., 1967; 13 Feb., 1968], Nos. 7664/67, 52911/67 and 7020/68. Heading B7J. [Also in Division H5] A detachable cover 12 for the steering wheel rim of a motor car is formed from a band of pliable or elastic diathermanous material, such as plastics, fabric, leather bent around the outer periphery of the wheel and having its longitudinal edges secured to form a tube, and a heating conductor 18 is sandwiched between a fabric strip 20, to which it is stitched or stapled and a foamed plastics strip 21. The longitudinal edges are secured by a lace 15 threaded through holes 13, 14, or by overlapping co-acting adhesive layers (32, 33) of a. fastening device in which one layer is of an open fibrous texture and the other has hooks to engage loops in the superficial fibres. The ends of the strip are connected by the lace 15 threaded through holes 16, 17 so as to fit on different size wheels, or by adhesive layers (34, 35). The cover may have a waterproof covering. The conductor leads (18a, 18b) are connected in the battery or horn or flashing lights circuit, lead (18a) including a conductive press fastener (29, 30). The cover 12 may be perforated. The wheel spokes may be similarly covered.
