Abstract
1,179,111. Sealing strips. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 23 Feb., 1967 [10 March, 1966], No. 10473/66. Heading B2K. A sealing strip comprises a reinforcing core of filamentary material surrounded by a sheet of hot melt sealing composition, said composition comprising an intimate mixture of an ethylene/vinyl acetate co-polymer containing 10 to 45% by weight of vinyl acetate and a thermoplastic resin, the hot melt sealing composition being non-tacky at room temperature. The resin may be present in amount of from 10 to 130 parts by weight per hungred parts by weight of the co-polymer. Resins exemplified are terpene resins, terpene phenolic resins, cyclic ketone resins, rosin, dehydrogenated rosin, esters of hydrogenated rosin, hydrogenated rosin, esters of polymerized rosin, maleic anhydride/modified rosin and derivatives thereof, partial esters of co-polymers of styrene and maleic anhydride, soluble phenol-aldehyde resins, coumarone/indene resins, petroleum hydrocarbon resins and the metal salts of rosin and polymerized rosin. Plasticizers or fillers may be present. The filler may be calcium carbonate, a silicate, finely divided silica or barytes. Waxes such as carnauba wax, paraffin wax and chlorinated paraffin waxes may also be included in the sealing composition. The core which may be a sheet or rod may be of nylon, polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene terephthalate or a polyacrylonitrile.
