Abstract

1,178,258. Visiting &c. cards. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 22 March, 1967 [6 April, 1966], No. 13346/67. Heading B6A. [Also in Division G2] An identification arrangement which may be incorporated in a credit card, comprises an optical material 10 having a surface in which total internal reflection occurs, there being secured to the surface a negative image 14 of a reference pattern, such as a fingerprint, so that light will be absorbed by the dark parts of the image, either completely if it is black or partially if coloured, and on aligning pattern 12 with the image 14 a continuous area of one colour or black is observed only if the pattern 12 is the reference pattern. The material 10 may be in the form of a narrow angled prism but since such an arrangement is inconvenient and gives a distorted double image it is preferably formed by a lenticular array of narrow angled prisms. A filter may be attached thereto to enhance the image.
