Abstract

1,178,196. Flexible cables. LANDUND SEEKABELWERK G.m.b.H. 30 Sept., 1968, No. 46342/68. Heading H1A. A flexible tubular conductor in a cable comprises generally parallel wires, single or stranded, each adjacent pair 2, 3 forming a series of preferably hexagonal loops 4 joined by stranded links 5 which form the common part of the peripheries, of loops 6. The cable comprises a cone of fine wire, enclosed by successive layers of a semi-conductive screen of conductive rubber, a layer of rubber, another screen, and the tubular conductor. The conductor may be seamless or formed by a strip wound around the screen, the length of lay of the wires being long compared to the diameter of the cable to avoid high torsional stresses in their length. The conductor may be embedded in, or laid on the surface of a screen of conductive rubber or plastics which is enclosed in a rubber sheath.
