Abstract

1,178,140. Fusible cut-outs. CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 12 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 56354/67. Heading H2G. A cartridge-type fuse comprises a plurality of fusible elements 14, 15 in the form of long, thin, narrow strips having alternate short straight portions 32, 33 and longer bowed portions 42, 43 all bent to the same side of the strip, the strips being embedded in arc-extinguishing material filling casing 11. The strips are held between insulating annular discs 17, 18 which are wedged between caps 12, 13 and each end of the casing, these discs having radial slits 28 into which the ends of the fusible elements are slotted. Dents 29 in the strips enable them to be held in light tension. The metallic caps 12, 13 comprise an end part 25 whose edge is rolled over the flared end of sleeve part 21, the ends of the fusible elements being gripped between the two parts in this process in order to make a good electrical connection. The strips may have holes 53, 54 in each bowed portion or a single hole in each straight portion in order to create regions of reduced cross-section. An additional fusible element 16 fuses after the other elements have fused, thereby triggering device 20 which indicates visually that the fuse has blown.
