Abstract

1,177,855. Wire connectors. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 13 April, 1967 [14 April, 1966], No. 17090/67. Heading H2E. A solderless wire connector having a resilient insulating body 12 with two or more wire receiving channels 17 and 18 has a transverse slot 20 for receiving a resilient conductive contact member 11 which has one or more slots for making contact with a wire or wires and is held in position when a hinged cover 16 is closed over it and fastened at 34, 35. The body, which may be an injection moulding from polypropylene or made from nylon or polycarbonate, may have a slot 19 and slots between the channels to permit lateral insertion of the wires. The body may have a hinge 30 opposite the slot 19 and there may be one or more tabs (44) (Fig. 4, not shown) for closing the ends of the channels. The contact member which may be of hardened copper, brass, phosphor bronze or plated steel may have a spring clip socket contact (53) (Fig. 5, not shown) and a single pair of contact lobes fitting through an L-shaped slot in the top of the body, so that the socket contact rests in a trough in the body and receives a plug contact.
