Abstract
1,177,685. Lanthanium strontium chromite. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 3 April, 1968 [23 March, 1967], No. 13804/67. Heading C1A. An electrode for MHD apparatus is formed of lanthanium chromate with 1-60 molar per cent La replaced by Sr. Preferably the material has the composition La1-xSrxCrO3À Such electrodes may be made by mixing Cr2O3, La2O3 and SrO, or compounds of the metals which decompose to yield the oxide and gaseous products at high temperatures, and firing the mixture. A sintering agent, preferably a trace to 10 molar per cent of SrCO3, may be added and the mixture ground and pressed into the required shape before firing in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, preferably at a temperature above 1700‹ C., to give a product with at least 80% theoretical density.
