Abstract
1,177,374. Luggage carriers. J. STOCKLI. 30 Jan., 1967 [10 Feb., 1966], No. 4495/67. Heading B7J. A luggage carrier for car roofs comprises a base supported on a car roof and supporting the underside of an item of luggage, and a flexible cover which encloses the item of luggage, the flexible cover incorporating two rigid rods in spaced relation for tensioning the cover about the luggage, and means for holding parts of the cover normal to the rods against the luggage. In Figs. 1 and 3, the cover comprises an open-ended canvas tube 18 having foam rubber or plastics contoured transverse strips 20 for engaging the car roof, and having stiffening rods or a board thereon. The suitcase 25 is wrapped in the cover 18 which is secured therearound by cords or straps 24 and rods 23, and by elastic straps 27 and buttons 28. In a modification inflatable tubes replace the strips 20. In another embodiment, the cover comprises a rectangular sheet of canvas or fabric or plastics or rubberized material which is wrapped around the suitcase by means of rods which are rolled together.
