Abstract
1,175,538. Machine for gutting and cleaning fish. J. SMITH. 22 Sept., 1967 [28 Sept., 1966; 19 April, 1967], Nos. 43235/66 and 17902/67. Heading A2U. A machine for gutting and cleaning fish comprises an endless conveyer 11, which travels intermittently over a table 10 and has two side-chains 13 connected by transverse slats 12, e.g. made of nylon, carrying transverse troughs 24, in each of which a fish is placed belly upwards and brought to halt under a rotating circular saw 54, which is swung downwards, by mechanism controlled by a feeler 51, to cut open the fish from its throat to its gut hole, and is then swung upwardly clear of the fish. The conveyer 11 is then moved and halted when the fish is under a rotating circular brush 65, which is swung downwardly to sweep the guts from the opened fish, assisted for example by a jet of water, and is then swung upwardly clear of the fish. Before the belly cut is made, a cut across the throat of the fish may be made by swinging a rotating circular knife 29 (under the control of a feeler 40) downwardly to cut the throat of the fish. The knife 29 is then swung upwardly clear of the fish. The knife 29 comprises a blunt disc 29a and a sharp-edged disc 29b clamped together on a driven shaft 30. The diameter of the disc 29b is slightly larger than that of the disc 29a.
