Abstract

1,175,276. X-Ray tubes. CARL ZEISS JENA, VEB. 7 July, 1967, No. 31332/67. Heading H1D. A specimen changer for, e.g., an X-ray spectrograph comprises a removable specimen carrier which, in addition to the specimens, carries an obturating disc for the radiation aperture of the X-ray tube. As shown, a removal disc 23 provided with several circumferentially-arranged specimen containers 25 rests upon a rotatable table 14 actuated by gearing 17, 18, 20 from outside the apparatus. A disc 30, carried by the table, may be rotated to a position above the radiation aperture 8 and urged by solenoid 26 against a gasket 10 to form a hermetic and radiation-tight seal for the tube 1. When the disc is in the operative angular position, a cam 34 attached to the table 14 actuates a pawl 33 which normally prevents the hinged lid 12 of the specimen chamber from being opened. When the lid is rotated about its hinge 13, a bolt 36 is released and is urged by spring 35 to engage an aperture 39 in gear-wheel 20, whereby further movement of the table is prevented. The specimen chamber and the tube are connected to a common pump through valves which enable the specimen chamber to be ventilated without destroying the vacuum in the tube.
