Abstract

1,174,325. Optical apparatus. CONTRAVES A.G. July 12, 1967 [Aug.15, 1966], No.32076/67. Heading G2J. To improve the visibility in optical observation or surveying instruments, particularly for tracking flying bodies at large distances, by preventing the formation of large striae on a window 20, Fig.2, with a temperature drop across it, an annular slot, which may be covered by a filter strip 23, is connected by a suction duct 24 to an aspiration device, so that a flow of air, or other medium, is directed axially towards the window 20. As shown, the nozzle 22, in which the annular slot is provided, has a rounded entrance surface and is surrounded by an annular slot 25 which is also connected to the duct 24. Alternatively a flange may surround the nozzle. As applied to an observation instrument (50, Fig.4, not shown) mounted in an air conditioned dome housing (52) for rotation as a whole about a vertical axis (V), the dome housing (52) having a meridional slot covered by an arcuate cover (53) which partakes of the elevational motion of the observation tube (51) about the horizontal axis (H), the cover (53) has a window (40) aligned with the axis of tube (51) and provided on both sides with annular slots covered by filter strips (43, 43a) and connected to suction ducts (44, 44a).
