Abstract

117,427. Greenwood, A. E. April 5, 1918. Edges and selvedges, treating. - A selvedgeguide for use in cloth cutting, tentering, and pressing machines and adapted to open out and level rolled selvedges comprises a fixed lower plate 1 having blades 6, 7 set obliquely to the direction of travel of the cloth, an upper plate 8 movable parallel to the plate 1 and having blades 9, 10 opposite the blades 6, 7, and adjustable springs for pressing the open plates together, such as the springs 13 confined on pillars 4 on the plate 1 and acting on brackets 11 on the plate 8. The plates are provided with bell-mouthed ends to receive the cloth and the edges of the blades are bevelled, the corners 15 of the blades being sufficiently sharp to cut felted fibres without cutting the selvedge. The lower plate is provided with clips 2 for attachment to a shaft of the machine, the turned-over end 3 of the plate fitting over a parallel shaft.
