Abstract

1,174,063. Surface draw-off blocks for swimming baths. BELL BROS. (MANCHESTER) Ltd. 6 Sept., 1967 [17 Sept., 1966], No. 41610/66. Heading A4N. A block or tile for a swimming bath wall comprises a block 5 having faces 6 and 7 which define the rim of the bath and which are glazed, with a space 8 within it. The block has a plurality of apertures 9 and 10 in the form of vertical slots which communicate in the space 8. A plurality of apertures is formed in channels 15 of face 6 and further apertures 19 are formed in the rear of the block which communicate with a water passage 16. When the bath is filled with water and circulating water is supplied, the water level corresponds to the level of apertures 9 and 10 and water flows through said apertures into space 8 and thence into passage 16 via apertures 19 from which it is lead through appropriate recirculating apparatus and fed back to the bath. Ridge 23 forms a grip at the edge of the bath. The stock can be made of ceramic material or of coated stainless steel or cast iron. In another embodiment the space 8 can itself form a channel for leading away surface water, in which case no apertures 19 are provided. In a further embodiment Fig. 4, (not shown) the tiles are placed at a lower level than a conventional scum channel, thus water is continuously drawn off and draw-off is not dependent on water being splashed up into a scum channel.
