Abstract
1,173,022. Chlorinated organosilicon emul sions. DOW CORNING CORP. 8 Nov., 1966, No. 50054/66. Heading B1V. [Also in Division E1] An aqueous emulsion suitable for rendering soil water-repellant comprises (a) the mixture of distillable chlorosilanes boiling above 69.8‹C which are formed as by-product when methyl chloride is reacted with silicon, (b) a hydrocarbon of b.p. 90-170‹C, (c) an emulsifier and (d) water. Numerous components of the reaction by-products are specified. Many emulsifiers are also specified which may be cationic (amines and amine derivatives, quaternary ammonium compounds, sulphonium compounds, urethanes), anionic (sulphonated esters, hydrocarbons amino and nitrilo compounds, and condensation products thereof) and non-ionic (saponins, ethylene oxide condensation products and imine derivatives). Specified hydrocarbons are kerosene, fuel oil, Stoddard solvent, heptane and asphalt in naphtha.
