Abstract

1,172,737. 6 - (4 - carboxybutylthio)purine. SPOFA UNITED PHARMACEUTICAL WORKS. 28 Feb., 1967 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 9336/67. Heading C2C. 6 - (4 - Carboxybutylthio) purine, which has an antineoplastic effect, is prepared by reacting 4,5 - diamino - 6 - mercapto - pyrimidine with a compound of the formula X(CH 2 ) 4 COOR<SP>1</SP>, wherein X is a halogen atom and R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1-4 alkyl, condensing the resulting derivatives of 4,5 - diamino - 6 - (4 - carboxybutylthio)- pyrimidine or its 4-amino-5-formylamino derivative, obtained by treating the diamino compound with 85% formic acid, with formic acid or with a reactive derivative thereof such as an amide or ortho ester of the formula HC(OR<SP>11</SP>) 3 , where R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl, and saponifying the carboxy group where R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl group.
