Abstract
1,172,187. Chlorine-containing terpenoid esters. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 26 July, 1968 [27 July, 1967], No. 35919/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises chlorine-containing tempenoid esters which are the Diels-Alder adducts of hexachlorocyclopentadiene and a vinyl, allyl or methylallyl ester of a polycarboxylic acid having at least one double bond and in which all the carboxylic groups are esterified, there being approximately n moles of hexachlorocyclopentadiene for each mole of the ester wherein n is the number of double bonds in each molecule of the ester, and which are produced by a Diels-Alder reaction between hexachlorocyclopentadiene and an ester as defined above. Suitable esters are the vinyl, allyl or methyl allyl esters of maleic acid, fumaric acid, itaconic acid, mesaconic acid, citraconic acid, chloromaleic acid and muconic acid. The reaction between hexachlorocyclopentadiene and diallyl itaconate, diallyl fumerate and diallyl maleate is described; the reaction products from diallyl fumerate and diallyl maleate are identical and are thought to have the structure The compounds of the invention act as flame-inhibiting agents.
