Abstract

1,172,149. Two-part couplings. COURT - NEY, POPE (ELECTRICAL) Ltd. 17 Sept., 1968 [4 Oct., 1967], No. 45229/67. Heading H2E. An adjustable electrical connecting means comprises an elongate member 1 of insulating material, e.g. plastics formed along each longitudinal edge with an open channel accommodating an electrical conductor and a coupling device 11, e.g. a socket having a movable cover 17 and contact making elements 21 of resilient strip form engageable in said member so that when the cover 17 is in the closed position the elements 21 are engaged by at least one projection 31 depending from the cover 17 and the extremities of the elements 22 are urged into engagement with the conductors and mechanically couple the device 11 to the member ]. As shown, the member 1 accommodates an earthing conductor strip 9 and conductors 6 and 7 provide the line and neutral connections. The two current-carrying contacts (15) of the socket 11, are each integral with a strip (20) having extensions 21 with serrated feet 22, Fig. 7 (not shown), said extensions constituting the contact-making elements. The socket is also provided with an earth contact (16) which co-operates with an earth contact-making element, viz. a cam (26) having a serrated edge (28) which digs into the earthing strip 9 when the cover is in position Fig. 4 (not shown). More than two channels may be provided in the member 1 so that a socket having 4, 5 or more contacts may be accommodated.
